About Kriat Tehillim

What This Site Is

KriatTehillim.co.il is a communal and personal Tehillim (Psalms) reading platform. It lets groups — families, friends, communities — divide the 150 chapters of Psalms among themselves and read together for the recovery of someone who is ill, for the elevation of a soul, for the protection of soldiers, and for other purposes.

Alongside the community campaigns, the site offers personal reading according to traditional divisions: by day of the week, by day of the Hebrew month, and by the five books of Psalms. The Chida Psalms feature computes the Psalm passages that correspond to the letters of a person's Hebrew name.

Text Source

The Psalms text displayed on this site is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC) — the most precise witness of the Masoretic text, which is in the Public Domain.

Source: the openscriptures/morphhb (GitHub) project. The text is distributed without restriction under a CC0 (Public Domain) license. The site does not charge for the text itself.

The Westminster Leningrad Codex is a witness of the Masoretic text of the Leningrad Codex manuscript, which serves as the basis for most modern Bible translations. The text includes vowels (nikud), qere and ketiv, and cantillation marks (taamim).

Traditional Sources

The segula pages on this site are based on accepted traditional sources:

  • Babylonian Talmud — Tractate Nedarim (reciting Psalms for the sick), Tractate Berachot (the importance of "Ashrei")
  • Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai (the Chida, 1724–1806) — the method of Psalms by name
  • The book "Shmirat HaNefesh" — Rabbi Shlomo Levinstein
  • The book "Simchat HaNefesh" — Rabbi Elchanan Heniggerboim (18th century)
  • Customs of Jewish communities — Ashkenaz, Sepharad, Chassidut
  • The Israeli Military Rabbinate — on reciting Psalms for soldiers

All segula content is marked "based on traditional sources" and cited with its source. The site does not issue halachic rulings and is not a substitute for rabbinic guidance.
